About UsWe pride ourselves on doing projects the right way, the first time. The 505 can seem like a complicated boat at first; especially when things are not set up right from the beginning. But when your boat is dialed-in, you can focus on the racing and not on fixing things that break. Our mission is to help make 505 sailing simple, so you can spend more time on the water and less time in the boat park. We can help with any of your projects, no matter how big or small.
Craig has successfully completed many major projects over the last 10 years in the 505 class. As a customer, you have the advantage of benefitting from these experiences that translate into speed and efficiency. The odds are, if you have an idea for your boat, it has been done before. We know what works and what doesn't and can take the fear and mystery out of your toughest of projects. |
Our History |
Thompson Boat Works was officially founded in 2015, but the skills and experience we offer have been developed over a lifetime of sailing, racing, and boat preparation. Craig has been sailing 505's since 2003, and grew up racing Optimists and 420's on Lake Michigan at Columbia Yacht Club in Chicago. He was known for pushing the limits of the 420 class rules when it came to rigging and fit out. Craig attended the University of Rhode Island where he was a 4 year varsity starter and 2 year captain of the sailing team. Craig graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 2008 and now holds his Professional Engineering license in the state of New Hampshire.
In 2017, Thompson Boat Works packed up it's US workshop and moved to England due to being re-assigned for Craig's engineering job. During his time in the UK, Craig developed a relationship with Ovington Boats and rigged 9228 as a prototype for future rigged boat offerings. In 2021, Thompson Boat Works relocated back to the USA and became the official dealer for Ovington Boats 505's in North America. The TBW workshop is currently located in Rye, NH USA |
